HOW IN THE THE HELL IS MCCAIN GOING TO COMPARE OBAMA TO BRITNEY SPEARS AND PARIS HILTION!! WTF!!??

My, it's funny how things change. Just scant months ago, the crowds Obama was drawing on the stump were being dismissed as something for which the candidate could not claim credit. Remember that crowd in Oregon? That was the work of the mighty indie rock band the Decemberists! Now, suddenly, Obama is being credited with having, in the words of the McCain campaign, "great global recognition with a global fan base." Which is obviously a total disaster, because Real American Leaders visit der Fudge Hauses and knock over cans of applesauce to the delight of tens of people, like comical railyard tramps.

Anyway, Andrea Mitchell had the opportunity to ask Rick Davis about this new "Obama as celebrity" tack that the McCain camp has devised and my, did she do battle. Again and again, she pressed Davis to defend the ad, pointing out that a comparison to a political figure would be more apt than Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Davis basically responded by prattling, "Can you not deny that Obama is a celebrity?! I can't believe that anyone would think otherwise." And then he said, "You've never seen John McCain take a presidential campaign overseas," banking, I guess, on no one remembering McCain's trips to Colombia and Canada (his trips to Iraq and Europe were taxpayer-funded, although he still held a campaign fundraiser in London). And then it became an argument over McCain's plan to increase offshore drilling, for the psychological benefit of this Nation of Whiners of ours.

Mitchell wasn't having any of it, and deployed McCain intimate John Weaver's arch-criticism of McCain's tactics. And then Davis impugned Obama further on his decision to not visit the troops in Europe, on the grounds that the troops would have enjoyed the visit. So...Obama's "celebrity," in that case, is valuable?

Naturally, none of this made sense, and as Davis went on and on and on about Obama's criticism of McCain (again, how things have changed - way back when it was Obama getting derided for being naive about the tough environment of presidential politics), and Mitchell had to repeatedly correct him, and the whole thing is definitely worth a watch, but the bottom line is this: the McCain campaign spent their money on a silly ad and have now spent two days talking about what a celebrity Obama is and how popular he is, all the while kidding themselves into thinking that they've actually been talking about "the issues that Americans care about."

"I'm happy to talk about the substantive issues the next time I'm on your program," said Davis. Because there's no time like the later!

"Trashman" Nabbed For YouTube Threats
JULY 31--A New York City man was charged today with posting YouTube videos in which he claimed to have poisoned thousands of bottles of Gerber baby food in a bid to kill black babies. According to federal investigators, Anton Dunn--using the alias "Trashman" and wearing a ski mask in his clips--created three videos claiming that the baby food had been tainted with cyanide. In one video, according a federal criminal complaint unsealed today, Dunn, filming himself from inside a shower stall, claims that his "plan is in motion" and that four babies had already died. Dunn, 42, claimed that he would not be caught, despite "attempts to 'rat him out,'" adding that he had the police and FBI on his "payroll." A copy of the two-count U.S. District Court felony complaint filed against Dunn can be found below. A city cop caught on tape beating a handcuffed Army vet paused to take a phone call and then went right back to smashing the man with his baton, police sources told the Daily News.

Officer David London, 43, was stripped of his gun and badge Monday and placed on desk duty as the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau investigated the July 18 incident, sources said.

"He takes a cell phone break, then turns back to tuning up the [suspect]. He did it while the building security camera was rolling," a source said.

London and his partner stopped Walter Harvin, 28, as he tried to enter the DeHostos Apartment on W. 93rd St., where Harvin's mother lives, about 1:15 a.m.

"I told him don't close it because I don't have the keys," said Harvin, a vet who was discharged in 2004 for posttraumatic stress disorder.

"As I walked into the elevator he grabbed my arm. That's when I pushed him," Harvin said. "I was on the floor and he kept beating me with the stick. He sprayed me with Mace. While I was on the floor, he handcuffed me. I don't remember too much about it."

Security video from the building showed London beating Harvin after he was cuffed and on the ground, a source said.

"You are not supposed to beat a man once he is cuffed, but the video shows the [suspect] down on the ground, cuffed. They even stand him up in the corner and beat him with the [baton] some more," said a police source familiar with the security video.

As London and his partner propped the handcuffed war vet up against a wall, London's cell phone rang, sources said.

Video showed London talking on the phone for 90 seconds before he resumed beating Harvin, sources said.

London told colleagues Harvin went berserk when he was asked to show identification or proof he was entitled to be in the building.

Harvin started punching and kicking the cops, screaming, "You can't take me!" court papers say.

"He is a big guy who fought being cuffed, kicking. He was not quiet, lying there like a lamb," one source said.

London took the cell phone call only because it was an emergency, another source said, although he wouldn't elaborate.

Harvin said he didn't remember much of what happened once the beating started. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest and was released pending a hearing.

Harvin said he told the cop he served 3 1/2 years in the 101st Airborne Division, including six months in Iraq.

"[London] said he was in the Navy. It didn't matter to him. He said I was a disgrace," Harvin said.

Obama Denounces Ludacris Song Over Insulting Lyrics
It's turning out to be a tabloid kind of day for Sen. Barack Obama.

First, John McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, suggested on a conference call that depicting the Illinois Senator alongside Britney Spears and Paris Hilton in a campaign ad is merely comparing "apples to apples."

At the same time, a line out of a new freestyle verse from rapper Ludacris posed a new celebrity-tinged question for the Obama campaign. "Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant," Ludacris says in the song.

The rapper's remarks drew a sharp response from Sen. Clinton's former national finance co-chair, Yashar Hedayat.

"I hope Senator Obama has the presence of mind to denounce and distance himself from Ludacris," Hedayat wrote in an email to the Huffington Post. "In May, when Father Pfleger made those horrible remarks about Senator Clinton at Trinity United, Senator Obama didn't do much to defend her and John McCain was the first to rush to her defense."

Simultaneously, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton released a statement saying:

"As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics."

After Hilson graduated from high school, she managed to continue juggling all these tasks when she enrolled into Emory University in Atlanta. Attending school while actively advancing her music career put a great demand on her, especially from being a member of the extremely versatile Clutch team. But as luck would have it, Polow introduced her to superproducer Timbaland, who wasted no time in signing the multi-talented songbird to his growing Mosley Music imprint in 2006. Over the next couple years, Hilson's songwriting was practically ubiquitous, responsible for numerous hit singles, including Mary J. Trina and Kenyon Martin Involved in Car Accident

A release statement has been made regarding the accident:

“Trina was in a small fender bender in Belize, yesterday on her way from the airport to a charity basketball event this weekend,” Trina’s publicist Krystle Coleman [said]. “She is currently fine, and ‘extremely thankful’ that no one was hurt in the small car accident. She is looking forward to the rest of her weekend on vacation and thankful for everyone’s safety.”

The driver of the minivan, George Abraham, suffered minor injuries but his 12 and nine year- old-sons sustained injuries more severe. In an interview after the accident with Belize’s Local 7 News, Abraham accused Trina and Martin’s driver of being in the wrong. “I was on my right hand side and this vehicle overtake on this side,” Abraham said. “That guy was in the wrong in that vehicle. I was on my correct hand. ‘Ahh my shoulder.’”

Other witnesses said the police motorcade was so large, that oncoming traffic was forced to swerve to the sides on a narrow stretch of the road. “Bringing in such a huge figure within the NBA, we thought that it would just add some level of our thoughts and what it meant having them coming into our country and we wanted to show them with humbleness what it is that it means to us as Belizeans and also – everybody’s been expecting them,” organizer Diane Finnegan told Local 7 News.

Police are investigating the accident, as well as if the motorcade for Trina and Kenyon Martin was officially sanctioned.

Music producer Scott Storch is facing foreclosure on his $10 million Florida mansion, according to reports.

The Lean Back beatmaker is being chased by SunTrust Bank executives for outstanding payments on the home. According to the Palm Beach Post, Storch has failed to make monthly payments on the home for nearly a year.

The paper alleges in addition to the bank, an electric company and security system are after Storch and have put a lien on the house in an effort to settle outstanding payments. Storch was recently alleged to have fallen two years behind on property taxes amounting to $511,839 for the Miami Beach mansion.

WASHINGTON — A new poll released Thursday shows overwhelming support from Latinos for Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. John McCain.

Obama's approval rating with registered Latino voters, the nationwide Pew Hispanic Center poll found, is at 66 percent versus 23 percent favoring McCain.

Obama's "strong showing in this survey represents a sharp reversal in his fortunes from the primaries, when Obama lost the Latino vote to Hillary Clinton by a margin of nearly 2-to-1," according to Pew Hispanic Center associate director Mark Hugo Lopez.

Obama's favorability among Latinos is slightly up from a Gallup Poll summary of surveys taken in May, which showed Obama with 62 percent of Latino voters nationwide, compared with 29 percent for McCain.

"He now appears to be even more popular than Hillary Clinton among Latinos," Lopez s
said.
The poll of polls includes surveys from Gallup, CBS/NY Times, ABC/Washington Post, Quinnipiac, and Newsweek.

The survey also shows more than three quarters of Latinos who said they voted for Clinton in the primaries, now indicate they are likely to vote for Obama in the general election.

On Super Tuesday, Obama received only 38 percent of the Latino vote, while former rival Sen. Clinton received 58 percent, according to CNN exit polling. "This means that Obama is doing better among Hispanic Clinton supporters than he is among non-Hispanic white Clinton supporters, 70 percent of whom now say they have transferred their allegiance to Obama while 18 percent say they plan to vote for McCain," Lopez said, referring to a recent Pew Research Center for the People and the Press survey.

CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said past voting history among Hispanics has favored Democrats.

"Since 1972, Democratic candidates for president have, on average, won 64 percent of the Hispanic vote. So a 66 percent mark for Obama is pretty much what you would expect a Democratic candidate to get from Latinos," he said.

The poll, taken June 9-July 13, also examined the effect of race in the 2008 election.

By a margin of about 3-to-1 respondents said Obama's race would help him as opposed to hurt him with Latino voters. Fifty-three percent said his race wouldn't be a big factor in their support.

By a margin of 2-to-1 respondents said McCain's race will hurt rather than help his chances. Fifty-eight percent said McCain's race will "make no difference."

The survey shows kitchen table issues like education, jobs and health care weigh heavy on Latino voters.

Ninety-three percent of those surveyed said education was the top issue, followed by jobs, 91 percent, and health care, 90 percent.

"By a margin of 3-to-1, Hispanic registered voters believe that Obama will do a better job than McCain of dealing with education, jobs ... health care," Lopez said.
Latinos are an important voting bloc to both Democrats and Republicans, representing 9 percent of the eligible electorate and 15 percent of the total U.S. population.

But it appears this year more Latino voters are energized by the historic election.

Seventy-eight percent of Latino registered voters say they are following the election "very or somewhat closely" this year -- up from 72 percent who said the same thing at "this stage of the 2004 campaign."

"These poll findings, coming on the heels of a spirited Obama-Clinton nomination fight that led to rises in the Latino share of the vote in many Democratic primaries, suggest the Hispanic community is politically energized heading into the fall election campaign," Lopez said.

British army considering recruitment drive in Jamaica

LONDON: The British Army says it is considering a recruitment drive in Jamaica as it struggles to find enough soldiers to meet its international commitments.

The military says it is weighing whether to send an Army "overseas selection team" to Jamaica. The Caribbean country is a former British colony and remains a part of the Commonwealth.

The military has had difficulty recruiting and retaining soldiers as it maintains its deployment in Iraq and engages a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan.

The Army said in a statement Sunday that it is proud to recruit soldiers from countries with close historical ties to Britain.

The British military already employs some 600 Jamaican soldiers. They are among about 12,000 foreign and Commonwealth personnel who serve in its armed forces.

A 68-year-old Tampa woman was arrested today for forcing a severely mentally handicapped man to perform oral sex on her, police say.

Luella McAdoo is a longtime family friend of the victim, according to Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis. On April 5, the man’s mother left him in McAdoo’s care while she ran errands. When she came home at about 6 p.m., she found her son performing oral sex on McAdoo. The woman told McAdoo to go home, then she called police because her son, 34, does not have the ability to make a decision about sex on his own, Davis said.

The investigation, Davis said, was particularly challenging because of the victim’s mental condition and inability to communicate verbally. After the detectives investigated, according to Davis, they direct filed the case with the State Attorney’s Office, who filed charges.

McAdoo was arrested at her 953 Chestnut St. W home this morning by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a Tampa police warrant, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged with lewd or lascivious battery on an elderly or severely disabled person and is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $7,500 bond, according to jail records.

CAT FIGHT CAT FIGHT! Danica Patrick is involved in another confrontation, only this time it's with IRL's other female driver.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) – If Saturday is any indication, the Honda Indy 200 may be just more of the same struggles that Danica Patrick has faced so many times in the past three months.

Patrick, who started a career-best second here a year ago, was 11th in the morning practice at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

After getting out of her car, Patrick quickly walked to where Milka Duno, the only other woman racing here this weekend, was pitted and confronted the less experienced driver about getting in her way several times during the practice.

The confrontation lasted only about a minute, but witnesses said it grew heated and that Duno flung a towel in Patrick’s direction at one point as the two exchanged words. Patrick eventually walked away.

Patrick, who has previously confronted fellow drivers Dan Wheldon and Ryan Briscoe after racing incidents, brushed off the latest dustup, saying, “I just wanted to know if she saw me out there.”

Duno was not immediately available for comment.

Things didn’t get better for Patrick after the confrontation.

She failed to get past the first of three rounds in the knockout-style time trials and will start 20th on the 26-car grid in Sunday’s race. Duno qualified last.

“The car was pretty fast during practice this morning, but I was unable to find the speed that I needed during qualifying,” Patrick said. “I’m disappointed that I didn’t qualify better, knowing that I started on the front row last year.

“But there are some areas of the course where I will be able to make some passes. It’s a long race, so, hopefully, I can work my way up the field.”

PHOENIX - Rapper DMX has been arrested at a Phoenix mall on a felony charge of taking the identity of another.Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill did not have details of the charge, as it stemmed from a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office case.

The sheriff's office did not immediately return a request for comment.

Hill says DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was being taken Saturday for booking into the Maricopa County jail.

The musician/actor has had a recent string of run-ins with the law, including an arrest at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport earlier this month on outstanding warrants after he failed to appear in court.

The week before, he was arrested in Miami on charges of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana.

Jesse Jackson Used N-Word In Controversial Fox News Tape

The Rev. Jesse Jackson used the N-word during a break in a TV interview where he criticized presidential candidate Barack Obama, Fox News confirmed Wednesday.

The longtime civil rights leader already came under fire this month for crude off-air comments he made against Obama in what he thought was a private conversation during a taping of a "Fox & Friends" news show.

In additional comments from that same conversation, first reported by TVNewser, Jackson is reported to have said Obama was "talking down to black people," and referred to blacks with the N-word when he said Obama was telling them "how to behave."

Though a Fox spokesman confirmed the TVNewer's account to The Associated Press, the network declined to release the full transcript of the July 6 show and did not air the comments.

Jackson _ who is traveling in Spain _ apologized in a statement Wednesday for "hurtful words" but didn't offer specifics.

"I am deeply saddened and distressed by the pain and sorrow that I have caused as a result of my hurtful words. I apologize again to Senator Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, their children as well as to the American public," Jackson said in a written statement. "There really is no justification for my comments and I hope that the Obama family and the American public will forgive me. I also pray that we, as a nation, can move on to address the real issues that affect the American people."

A spokeswoman for Jackson's civil rights organization, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, said she could not confirm that Jackson used the slur.

Jackson has called on the entertainment industry, including rappers, actors and studios, to stop using the N-Word. He also urged the public to boycott purchasing DVD copies of the TV sitcom "Seinfeld" after co-star Michael Richards was taped using the word during a rant at a Los Angeles comedy club in 2006.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has joined Jackson in opposition of the word, said Wednesday he wanted to hear the comments for himself and declined to discuss Jackson specifically.

"I am against the use of the N-word by anyone and I think we must be consistent," he told The Associated Press. "We must not use the word."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Cries After Sparring With Whoopi Over N-Word What In The Hell Does She Knows About Black Race!!!

Thursday morning on "The View," during a discussion on the N-word prompted by the revelation that Jesse Jackson used the slur in his controversial Fox News tape, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck had a heated back-and-forth that ended with Elisabeth in tears.

Whoopi, who earlier in the broadcast had used the n-word repeatedly, sending the censors into overload, argued that the word is only as powerful as a society allows it to be and advocated for using the word to give it new meaning. Elisabeth, meanwhile, felt that she couldn't teach her children not to say the word if her black co-hosts and their children were using the word, arguing that, "we don't live in different worlds."

Whoopi then launched into a heated explanation of why black and white America still remain separate: "It isn't balanced, and we would like it to be, but you have to understand, you have to listen to the fact that we're telling you there are issues, there are huge problems that still affect us," she said.

Elisabeth replied, in tears, "When we live in a world where pop culture then uses that term, and we're trying to get to a place where we feel like we're in the same place, where we feel like we're in the same world...how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?"

Black Woman Hit By Car Targeted

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A woman riding her bike in Daytona Beach Monday night was hit by car driven by a man targeting African Americans, police said.

Police believe Nekedia Cato, a 25-year-old African American woman, was hit by Thomas Cosby, of Port Orange.Police said Cosby, 56, slammed into Cato, took out a nearby porch, hit a tree and then rolled three times.

"He just hit me because I was black," Cato said.

Cato was riding her bike home from the store on South Atlantic Avenue.

"I actually saw him coming toward me. I tried to move my bike as fast as I [could], but it wasn’t quick enough. He came straight for me," Cato said.

Police reported that after Cosby crashed, he got out of his car, screaming racist remarks. Cosby repeatedly used the N-word and shouted he wanted to kill black people, authorities said.

"He was screaming out he had to kill all black people because one slept with his wife," Cato said.

Cato recently moved to the Daytona Beach area with her boyfriend, D.

"If he could target me just because of the color of my skin, he could target anybody else," Cato said.

Cato suffered several broken bones, a broken leg and other injuries. Her leg injury was so severe doctors inserted a metal rod into her leg. Cato could be hospitalized for weeks.

"I'm kind of scared walking down the street because I don't know if people hate me," Cato said.

Cato just started a new job, but could lose it due to prolonged time in the hospital.

"I don't have hate in my heart, you know, I just don't have hate in my heart," Cato said.

Cosby is charged with aggravated battery and simple battery under the state's hate crime laws. More severe penalties will follow if Cosby is convicted.

Florida's hate crime laws went into effect in 1989, including crimes committed not only due to race, but due to religion, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, or age if over 65 years old.

Nate Dogg rolled up in court yesterday:
Showing up to court in a wheelchair—the result of a stroke suffered six months ago that left him partially paralyzed. The Prodigal Son rapper pleaded not guilty today to felony charges stemming from his arrest last month for threatening his estranged wife.Dogg, faces two felony counts of making criminal threats, one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI.

He was released on $50,000 bond, which Compton Superior Court Commissioner Joel Wallenstein upped to $100,000 this morning. After doing so, the commissioner ordered the bailiff to temporarily place Dogg in a holding area until his camp paid the additional $50,000. [Nate Dogg's] next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 1, at which point a judge will decide whether or not there’s enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Word is, he also allegedly emailed his estranged wife death threats. Now if his wheelchair bound ass can wreak all this havoc, he’s pretty much a lost cause. SMH.

Afraid of laundry? You will be after reading this

GORHAM, Maine - Mara Ranger will be a little paranoid doing laundry now. When she was removing clothes from the washing machine at her Maine farmhouse Wednesday, the clothes moved. She told WMTW-TV, "I jumped back" and saw a snake. She quickly shut the lid and called for help.Maine Animal Damage Control operator Richard Burton reached into the machine and pulled and pulled — all 8 feet of a reticulated python.

Burton guesses the snake got into Ranger's washing machine through water pipes. The snake's future home will be York Animal Kingdom in York.

Ranger is going to start looking into every corner of her washing machine. She says, "I'm going to be looking in the tub first — before and after, maybe even during, the rinse cycle."

Rocsi’s on the Outs

After storming off the set on Friday, rumors are flying all around the web regarding Rocsi’s mysterious absence from yesterday’s episode of 106 & Park. Word is she has been suspended indefinitely, and Terrance could be on his way out too. Keri Hilson stood in for ole girl yesterday and received a bouquet of flowers from Terrance once she arrived on set (a token of apology meant for Rocs perhaps??). We’re curious to see how this particular brand of petty drama unfolds.
